Swallowtail Butterflies Visit Us

Butterfly sitings have been reduced to a very few this year.

We had a few of the little white ones (Cabbage Butterflies) one or two Admirals, a couple of Monarchs, and now finally, the amazing and stunning Swallowtails decided to come for a visit yesterday.

The first to arrive was the Black Swallowtail.

The Black Swallowtail hung around on the Coneflowers for about 10 minutes, and I took about 100 shots, of which I kept only a few.

To show y ou the full beauty of the open wings, here is a shot I got in 2017.

Then, in glided a Yellow Swallowtail. This one was not going to allow me to get many photos. It fluttered around from place to place, teasing me with almost landing on several plant, but always taking off as I got in position.

It seemed to want to be on the most sundrenched flower, which would of course, blow out the colour.

I was really too far away to get a really decent shot, so these three photos were my only option.

Below are a couple I took in 2014, but sadly the butterfly had clearly been in a couple of scraps, you can see that the colours are a bit faded and the far right wingtip is worn through, The tail is a bit ratty also.
