Flash fiction — snipped and removed from reality.

The claim was tailor-made, but not the suit. And the tie, as always was a lament to all things crimson that I once loved…to a sun setting now into the darkening sky. Shall we turn off the TV? Slip into the ink?

This is the only elixir I allow to cascade into my overflowing cup. Harder and harder to swill, even when it is not, inflating the death toll. The promise of an early, green, and saccharine escape makes it all the more alluring.

So I drink of the strange liqueur swirling around the herbs gathered at altitudes yet unfathomed near slipping and sliding glacial realities. I can still taste their medicine on each gasping, conspiracy-oriented, rumination. Spinning with my sweetened voice a web of vague, baseless theories.

Where is your glass?

Let me fill you three fingers deep that you may view the world through the most conspiratorial of lenses. Sip and afterward, we begin!

The work will be unending — upcycling, building, constructing goods and services to peddle in the new economy. Made from 100% recycled glass, shattered expectations, and repurposed fringe theories.

Raise your cup, toast, and talk of the future beyond these four walls.

What’s your poison? Will you splash on the forbidden shores? Trek places outside your 1 kilometer allotted radius? Invite more than 9 people over for a barbecue? Or form a secret cabal? The future is limitless. And the official numbers should not be trusted.

For now, there is little else to do but to drift on the lightest wings of dreams like so many musing, humming, flying creatures gathering their iridescence around them.

This month, I’m playing with the concept of life as collage. In fact, it’s the prompt of the week here at Vagabond Voices.

The rest of the story is an automatic collage my mind formed around a few phrases. A patchwork of dreams, news reports, thoughts spinning too fast to catch on normal days.
