Snapchat UI

What I found interesting about this blog post was finding out how snapchat was able to succeed even though it shunned modern product design values. Snapchat was able to prove that great design isn’t always about usability.

Although snapchat may fail to appeal to consumer on their first go, maybe thats their niche and what makes them the powerhouse that they are. It is one of the few social media platforms that parents haven’t integrated into due to the complexity of it. By having confusion and not having clear instructions snapchat requires users to spend time unraveling the app.

However, I do wonder whether if it wasn’t the pioneer to the use of cameras as a the main function of social media, if they would have got away with it. What I love about snapchat is that it’s a proven example of a successful app that doesn’t follow the design manuel. It reasureces me that design is still evolving and never set.
