What is Digital Inclusion?

I may be bias but I can’t help but think of this collage art piece I made for DTC 201. In my experiences with the internet as well as my academic journey through DTC I often found myself comparing the online landscape to a vast ocean. Varying in depth, in content, and in accessibility the internet ties all these extremes together, but not everyone is treated the same in this great sea of possibilities.

With this collage I wanted to contrast the blissful unaware privileges' of a class of people born into online comfort, with the scavengers trying to make their way in an environment where they are seen as disposable if they are even seen at all. I tried to capture this by having the swimsuit models up front and center; their presence blocking out the beach, resort, and people behind them. In the background you can see images of wildlife, and protesters from occupy wall street; they’re framed within silhouettes of fish to further cement this hierarchy between them and their foreground counterparts.
