6 Reasons Everyone Needs to Make Time to Travel

What exactly is it that makes people want to leave their homes and travel abroad? What is it about the allure of far off destinations that makes people travel incredible distances to experience strange and exotic cultures and customs? Is it a fascination? Curiosity perhaps? Arguably, no two people would give the same answers to these questions, and there really is no wrong answer.

Some people are driven by an insatiable wanderlust and some are content to never venture more than a few miles from their home, but this week I’ve rounded up 6 Reasons Why You Should Make Time to Travel.

For executives and entry level employees alike, the constant demand of work can be a big source of stress and anxiety. Travel can offer a brief yet much needed distraction from the responsibilities of day to day life. A trip abroad every six months, or even once a year, can be a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday business as usual. As the saying goes, “all work and no play makes jack a dull boy.” It’s important to take a break sometimes and get away from life. There are plenty of relaxing destinations to choose from around the world, which brings me to my next point.

It’s a great deal easier to make new friends on the road than it is at home. People are less inclined to chat with strangers on a bus commute or strike up conversation in the bustling subway. When people are away from home, there seem to be less boundaries in regard to social interaction and making friends becomes much easier. whether it’s a curious local eager to know where you’ve come from or a fellow traveller to share stories of far off destinations with, making friends simply happens when you travel. With the widespread use of mobile devices and social media, you could potentially keep in contact long after you’ve parted ways.

Maybe you want to try to learn a new skill like how to make authentic cuisines from around the world or maybe learn a new language, travel can be an invaluable tool for continuing your education. Learning new things causes our brains to become far more active, and psychologists have found that challenging your mind can directly influence a person’s mental state. Regardless of what skill you aim to learn, learning about different customs, cultures and places can be an extremely rewarding experience that you will never forget.

Sometimes the unexpected can occur while traveling, and circumstances could cause you to have to have to deal with situations you least expect in a place you are unfamiliar with. Even if you plan every aspect of your trip down to the letter, things can take surprise turns. These situations can be waypoints on the road to self discovery. By being faced with unexpected situations, a minor crisis can make even the most well prepared and resourceful people stop to take a moment look inward and find huge amounts of self confidence. Remember, self confidence is crucial to emotional health.

Planning a trip can be a long process and may be a bit overwhelming to think about, but for many people, travel is a well loved pastime that can provide life changing experiences and fond memories for years to come. Whether your next trip takes you across the globe or just across state lines, you will not regret having taken the time to get away from your responsibilities and enjoy yourself abroad. What are your reasons for wanting to travel? If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go and why? Leave a comment in the section below.
